The process of applying for residency programs can be complicated, and it's important to pay attention to deadlines. Most programs accept applications from July to December for entry the following July. To increase their chances of success, students should apply to all the programs they're interested in and get their applications in as early as possible. Interviews are typically conducted from September to January, and students should make every effort to attend if they receive an invitation.
One useful resource for researching residency programs is the American Medical Association (AMA) Graduate Medical Education Directory, which is also known as the "green book." This directory lists all the programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and can be obtained from medical libraries or bookstores. It's also available for purchase directly from our bookstore.
