In order to be eligible for graduation and to apply to a residency program in the United States, students must fulfill certain requirements. These include successfully completing all required coursework, passing the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams in three or fewer attempts, meeting all financial obligations to the medical college and having all necessary administrative documents on file.
The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is an organization that verifies the education of foreign medical graduates and issues certification. The ECFMG certificate is required to enter a residency program and obtain licensure. To obtain the certificate, a student must have a valid medical school diploma and have passed the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams (CS and CK).
More information can be found on the ECFMG website.
