Accreditation Basics

We are pleased to share an important update regarding Columbus Central University School of Medicine (CCU) accreditation status. The University remains steadfast in its commitment to providing high-quality medical education, and we are proud to announce that CCU is accredited by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR).

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS ACCREDITATION:

  • Our recent accreditation by the IAAR enables eligible CCU students to take the USMLE Step Examination, participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), and obtain licensure in the United States.
  • Global Recognition: IAAR is an internationally respected accrediting body known for its rigorous evaluation standards. IAAR has been recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), European Quality Assurance Register in Higher Education (EQAR), and European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
  • In 2024, the ECFMG mandated that foreign medical schools be accredited by a recognized accrediting body for their students to qualify for the USMLE Step exams and pursue residency and medical licensure in the United States. CCU’s accreditor, IAAR, holds recognition from the WFME and fully satisfies this requirement.
  • Quality Assurance: This accreditation reaffirms that CCU meets high academic and professional standards in medical education, allowing our graduates to continue to excel.
  • Career Advancement: Graduates from CCU’s accredited program can pursue further training and licensure opportunities in various regions.

Accreditation and Approvals

Accreditation is a process by which a medical school undergoes extensive external evaluation by experts to ensure high educational standards are achieved.  National and regional bodies which accredit schools are themselves evaluated by international federations, and by US based commissions.

 

Columbus Central University School of Medicine is accredited, enabling our students to be eligible for practice in the U.S.

CCU’s accreditation ensures that students have:

 

  • The opportunity to participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and apply for licensure to practice in the U.S.
  • Access to take licensing exams, including the United States Medical Licensing Examinations USMLE.
